Halloween is my favourite time of the year, even if you are not American you can enjoy Halloween in any part of the world, you just have to get into the spirit! Here are a few reasons we love Halloween.
Scary pumpkin faces are the symbol of Halloween and it wouldn’t be the same without them. Every year we buy a couple of big pumpkins and get creative making the scariest faces possible. The kids love digging out the pumpkin seeds and mushing them between their fingers. It has become a tradition for us to do this a few days before Halloween every year.
The leaves are falling of the trees, the air is getting cooler, and there is a certain smell of freshness in the air. The weather is still nice enough to play outside and autumn colours are so beautiful. Long walks outside are great fun with the kids and the park is a great place to collect leaves to use for our arts and crafts.
The great thing about Halloween is that it inspires a creative mind. Telling stories, creating arts and crafts, and just playing pretend stimulates the little ones minds.
Any excuse for themed crafts are great, there is so much to do. From making paper lanterns, ghosts and goblins, to colouring and decorating pumpkins, anything orange or black for the Halloween theme.
Trick or Treat
Who doesn’t love free lollies and chocolate? And well a few tricks in there won’t hurt either. Heading out the evening of Halloween is so much fun with the kids all dressed up. The excitement when they on the doors wondering what special surprises they are going to receive is priceless. The sweets they bring home usually last days, or even weeks (unless mum gets into them when the kids aren’t looking haha)
Playing Dress Up
Halloween costumes are the best, you can be as creative as you want. I have had my boys dress up as skeletons or Dracula, ghosts and goblins. You can dress up as anything. No need to buy costumes either, you can get creative and improvise, painting the kids faces etc.
No Age Restrictions
Anyone can enjoy Halloween, not just the kids! Adults can have fun too. There is nothing I love more than dressing up and getting into the spirit of Halloween. I love telling ghost stories, and pretending to be a scary villain. It is a time that adults can let loose and act like kids again.
