Maternity Nurses typically accept temporary assignments and generally do not remain with the infant beyond 6 months of age. Conversely, Maternity Nannies are often employed on a permanent basis and may continue to assist the family, including support with new siblings. From birth, maternity nurses are generally considered suitable to commence work, whereas Maternity Nannies primarily work with babies aged three months and older.

Maternity Nurses are usually engaged on a 24/7 basis for several weeks. In contrast, Maternity Nannies tend to remain with the family for at least one to two years. Highly qualified maternity nurses tend to command higher fees; however, Maternity Nannies accept lower rates.
